Concerts for All | Concert Listening Challenge
Sydney-based music advocacy organisation Concerts for All has launched the Concert Listening Challenge, a new initiative designed to inspire young audiences and families to attend classical concerts.
The program challenges children and families to attend 15 classical concerts within 12 months, unlocking special rewards at key milestones along the way. By attending live classical concerts, participants earn rewards along the way through the Concert Listening Challenge.
To support the initiative, Concerts for All has actively been partnering with Sydney’s schools, stores and various music organisations. In addition to picking up materials at Concerts for All’s own concerts, families can collect physical Challenge card packs and redeem their rewards through a growing network of partners.
How the Challenge Works
- Collect the Pack: Families visit a participating partner store, attend a Concerts for All Community Concert, or download a printable card from the website to collect their tracking card and stickers.
- Attend & Track: Participants attend concerts and use the stickers to mark each milestone on their card. Any live performance attended qualifies for the challenge. This includes:
- Classical concerts
- Jazz concerts
- Film music concerts
- Musicals
- Student recitals
- School concerts, talent shows
- Verify & Redeem: Families submit photos of their tickets or programs to the Concerts for All App for verification. Once confirmed, rewards can be collected at a ‘Concerts for All’ concert (such as their monthly QVB Classical Pop-Ups), or from a participating partner.
Incentivising Young Listeners
The challenge features a tiered reward system with respective rewards:
- 5 Concerts (Concert Initiate): Earning the first milestone awards students an official achievement certificate.
- 10 Concerts (Musical Steward): Reaching this tier unlocks an exclusive instrument keyring (options include harp, violin, piano and musical note).
- 15 Concerts (Classical Champion): Completion of the full challenge rewards students with an exclusive Classical Champion bear.
The Concert Listening Challenge is free to join and open to anyone throughout Australia.
Reclaiming the Art of Active Listening
At the heart of the initiative is the belief that developing listening skills is vital to every musician’s growth and inspiration. By encouraging students to become active audience members, Concerts for All hopes to spark curiosity, deepen musical understanding, and cultivate a lifelong passion for live performance.
“Every concert is an opportunity to learn and grow,” says Yichao Ma, Director of Concerts for All. “Active listening is considered just as vital as performance. We want to nurture a concert-going habit and help more families engage with the transformative power of live music.”
